Our World / Bradley Carton - my first 18 months in recruitment
Bradley Carton
October 21, 2016
My name is Bradley Carton and I have been working for BPS World for over 18 months. I started off in a recruitment apprenticeship as part of the company’s Rising Stars programme, which I completed within 8 months.
The Rising Stars programme is a structured learning programme which apprentices complete in 12 months and at the end they receive a nationally recognised qualification, the REC level 2 Certification in Recruitment Resourcing. This is why I chose the programme because not only would I gain practical work experience but I would also receive education, training and mentorship.
I am currently working in the Engineering team, most of my clients are UK based but I do work on projects with recruitment requirements in Poland and France. The global aspect of my work allows me to learn about international business cultures which really broadens my knowledge and experience.
I am also studying for my NVQ Level 3 in recruitment which will further enhance my theoretical understanding of recruitment. BPS World have a “people first” culture and there is always the opportunity to further improve yourself, personally, professionally and academically. Having completed the apprenticeship programme myself I now act as a mentor to new apprentices. The best advice I give to them is always keep a positive mind set because this will give you a positive outcome.
At BPS World there is a strong social scene. I organise and take part in weekly football matches with my colleagues. We have a social event at the end of each quarter and to date these have included, bowling, bingo and ferret racing! The company also support charity events like the McMillian coffee morning, Red Nose day and Christmas Jumper day, we also have a fancy dress day on Halloween – there is always lots going on!
I am very proud of my achievement since starting with BPS World, I broke a revenue target threshold as part of a companywide initiative and was presented with the company award for “Commitment” in recognition of my first year’s efforts. My greatest acheivement to date is winning the IRP Award for Apprentice of The Year in December 2016- this was a very proud moment for me. My career with BPS World to date has been very exciting and I am looking forward to achieving even more in the future.
