Sam Stanley - My first six months in recruitment

Written by Sam Stanley | March 21, 2016

My name is Sam Stanley and 6 months ago I started a recruitment apprenticeship at BPS World and now I recruit for roles in SAP.

I work with global clients and consulting firms and recruit candidates from all around the world with most of the roles being based in Asia and in particular Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia.

Working with candidates and clients internationally makes my work really interesting as it allows me to have an insight into how people from other cultures communicate and behave. Working in recruitment and at BPS World has allowed me to develop a variety of my skills ranging from my negotiating skills to listening skills, but mainly my confidence in talking to complete strangers who can come from anywhere in the world looking for work!

Working internationally also comes with its challenges and at times can make it a bit more frustrating than working in just the UK. It does however make it even more rewarding when you do eventually place your candidates and experience the thrill of breaking the news to them. My biggest achievement so far would be making my first placement. We’d spoken about the process during training, but actually going from finding a candidate to placing them in a job has got to be the best feeling.

I’m so excited about what the future holds for me within BPS World. I hope to soon have the capabilities to progress into account management and perhaps even coaching and mentoring a new apprentice since I’ll be able to share my experiences with them and pass on everything I’ve learnt.
