The challenges of global contractor management

Written by Jo Zebedee | March 23, 2016

The global expansion of BPS World's business has provided some challenges when engaging with contractors from all around the world.

As a company we are spanning more countries than ever before and while the majority of our placements are on a permanent basis we are also working with more and more contractors around the world.  This is where my role of Contracts Administrator comes into play....

Each country, client and candidate have country specific needs and requirements and the placement of each one has brought its own challenges! I am currently responsible for on-boarding, supporting and timesheet processing for contractors spanning more than seven countries and this number is increasing day by day as BPS World continues to grow.  On-boarding is the process we follow to acquire the necessary information to enable us to engage through a contract with a new-hire.  This is a vital part of the recruitment of contractors as without it the checks are not carried out to ensure contractors are compliant, have right to work in the country in question and have a correct payment vehicle in place.

The key to dealing with each new requirement is to ask the right questions from the offset, gather the relevant information well ahead of any offer of employment being made.  This enables us to apply knowledge where appropriate or investigate the situation accordingly.  It is also important that I recognise when something is not compliant, I am like the stepping stone between the sales floor, client and candidate and this is not without its challenges.  On a day to day basis I liaise with all areas of the business, to provide the best possible support in contractor management.

I am embarking on a steep learning curve in this area, growing my expertise in this area. What are your challenges of international recruitment?
