What is LinkedIn Learning?

Written by Megan Joyce | March 1, 2017

The digital age is well and truly upon us and technology has become embedded into our everyday lives. Social media runs our social lives, Nokia phones are a novelty and the answers to our questions are quite literally at our fingertips!

It’s with no surprise then that learning capabilities and the information available to us has come leaps and bounds. One significant development to us as a business is that of LinkedIn Learning.

“LinkedIn Learning helps promote our learning culture and is an integral element in developing our people” – Jo Rapley, People & Culture Manager, BPS World.

LinkedIn Learning is an online platform that holds over 9,000 digital courses and uses intelligence from their social site to create data-driven personalisation. As each individual subscribing to the tool has their own dashboard, the data-driven personalisation means that the first courses you see are catered to you and your own development. For me personally, this means I have a variety of marketing courses containing relevant content targeted towards my development, for me to pick from.

LinkedIn suggest that “the skills that got you to where you are today are not the skills to prepare you for tomorrow. In fact, the shelf-life of skills is less than five years, and many of today’s fastest growing job categories didn’t even exist five years ago”,  they aim to tackle this with the development of LinkedIn Learning, combining industry-leading content from Lynda.com with their professional data and network.

As well as the world-class content and data-driven personalisation, LinkedIn Learning is also built on the principle of “anytime, anywhere convenience”. As technological capabilities have increased, our patience has decreased, so the ability to access LinkedIn Learning and the content we want, whenever we want means that we can continuously grow our capabilities seamlessly.

As well as catering to the individual, LinkedIn Learning also offers group learning opportunities, meaning you can develop as an individual, team or even business. The opportunities available are continuing to grow, increasing the possibilities for various businesses looking to expand their capabilities.

One of our Recruitment Consultants, Szilvia Hock-Kovacs “found there to be a wide choice of training from shorter videos to multiple-stage learning paths”, LinkedIn Learning appeals to Szilvia as “you can learn at your own pace and the videos are easy-to-follow and engaging.   LinkedIn Learning provides a comfortable, easy and interesting way of learning new skill as well as gaining knowledge about industry best-practices.”

As a business, we believe in the pursuit of continuous improvement and with LinkedIn “adding at least 25 courses a week”, customising “multi-course Learning Paths” and developing a platform “that can be viewed anytime, on any device, online and off” the pursuit is well and truly underway!
