The past six months have flown by since I started working at BPS World on their Rising Stars apprenticeship programme

There’s been a lot to take in amidst the flurry of roles to work on - but you must take it in your stride if you want to achieve results!Focusing on the work that you have in front of you is a good habit to adopt, procrastination makes less productive but it is important not to take too much time familiarising yourself with a role at the exception of all others. This can slow down progress traction and no-one expects an apprentice to be a subject matter expert at such an early stage.

Quality is paramount in every situation and I have found that the more advised I have been on a role, the more credible I have been when conversing with candidates and thus I have become more confident as time has passed. Finding the balance between the learning time and performing action against roles is very important to be as efficient as possible and this does come with experience.

It has been enlightening and to see how a recruitment organisation operate from the other side of the job boards. I presumed it would be the stereotypical hard sales approach but to my pleasant surprise; there is a strong team-oriented ethos embedded within the company and a helping hand is never far away.

Previously I worked as an assistant in a local bookmaker, so there was a lot that I had to adjust to in this new environment of “recruitment”. The initial training provided me with the essential foundations to build on before I experienced working in each of the recruitment delivery teams: Engineering; Management Consultancy; Business & Professional (B&P) and Technology. I then joined the B&P department where I have been resourcing for a multitude of roles across numerous accounts including data analysts in Latvia and immigration consultants in China.

The learning curve has been steep throughout my time here and I have been subject to a wide variety of situations; no two days are the same! Each new experience is a chance to develop, whether you’re revelling in success or learning from mistakes.

My advice to anyone new to the recruitment industry, it would be to stay positive and keep persisting until an outcome has been reached; even if the result is negative – always move onward and upward, dwelling on issues will only reduce productivity.

My apprenticeship at BPS World helped me improve my knowledge and skill set within the industry. The company values of “Passion” “Commitment”, “Excellence” and “Delivery” are a great summarisation for someone who aims to be reliable, dependable, credible and trustworthy and every one at BPS World embodies these actively. I have high expectations of what I can achieve with the organisation and by aligning my attitude to the company values I will make the expectation a reality.
