Wind turbine technicians, or windtechs, are responsible for the installation, inspection, maintenance, operation, and troubleshooting of wind turbines. They can identify and fix any issue that may cause the turbine to shut down unexpectedly.
Job responsibilities of windtechs include climbing the tubular steel towers to inspect, repair any damages, and perform maintenance checks to avoid malfunctions. They are also in charge of collecting turbine data for analysis and testing electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems to ensure wind energy turns into electrical energy.
The median annual wage of a Windtech is £29,075. Salaries range from £19,000 to more than £41,000, depending on experience and training.
2. Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Installers
Average annual salary: £29,479
Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Installers are in charge of assembling, setting up, and maintaining rooftop or other systems that convert sunlight into energy like solar panels. This role is set for exponential growth as Governments and organisations across the globe introduce energy saving measures to help reduce carbon emissions. The median annual wage of a Solar PV Installer is £29,479.

Depending on the scope of work, it may include operations in oil and gas drilling, as well as mining operations such as extraction, excavation, plumbing, piping, construction, or driving trucks or truck-mounted equipment.
The median annual wage of a Service Unit Operator is £28,011. Salaries range from £25,000 to more than £32,000, depending on experience and training.

Average annual salary: £28,469
As the renewables industry grows, companies are investing in hiring Training and Development Specialists who plan and manage programs to improve employee skills and knowledge. Aside from a Bachelor’s degree, Training and Development Specialists need experience and strong communication skills to compete in the market.
