Our World / Andy Robins - my start in a recruitment apprenticeship
Andy Robins
September 30, 2016
My name is Andy Robins and I am an Apprentice Resourcer for the Management Consulting team at BPS World. I have been working with the company for nine months and joined their Rising Stars Apprenticeship Programme after finishing 6th form.
I chose not to go to university as I was eager to start working and I have now created a career for myself at BPS World. When I finished school I knew very little about apprenticeship programmes or the opportunities they could offer me. Most schools, like mine, encourage leavers to go to university and rarely provide detailed and sufficient information on apprenticeships and the variety available. I found applying to BPS World for an apprenticeship position was straightforward and I was kept informed about the process and what was available for me. I heard about BPS World through my friend who was currently working on the programme and after learning about his experience I knew it was something I would be interested in.
The option to work on an apprenticeship programme is becoming more popular. There are now more industries hiring apprentices and providing training and education for them which results in more opportunity for youth workers. Companies in the Recruitment, IT, Banking, Roofing and Plumbing industries to name a few are introducing apprenticeships and training programmes. These programmes give you the chance to work towards a qualification and help you to gain the skills and knowledge you need to succeed in your chosen industry.
My apprenticeship with BPS World has given me experience of working with people in different locations like Hong Kong, China, Malaysia, Indonesia and India. This has allowed me to grow my knowledge of different business cultures and speak to different people around the world. I have also learned a great deal about the industries we recruit for such as Banking, Consulting, SAP and Insurance. Another important part of apprenticeships programme is the opportunity to gain an industry recognised qualification and to work alongside recruitment professionals who act as mentors for me and who are always on hand to offer guidance. The focus on learning and training has made me very feel very confident that an apprenticeship programme was the right choice for me.
