There can be a degree of uncertainty when on-boarding new employees and appropriate checks need to be conducted, education, job history and criminal checks are the three most common areas that need verification.

The cost of hiring the wrong employee has been estimated at £8,200 according to the CIPD so not verifying your new talents background can be a costly mistake.

The cost of rehiring due to a candidates providing fraudulent background information is significantly higher than running the background check prior to hiring. Even a basic check will highlight any red flags that could be the difference between a successful  employee and a costly re-hire.

Another costly mistake is not validating an individual’s “Right to Work.” Each country has a different view on this requirement but all have some form of penalty for failure to comply.
