As the champions of GOOD recruitment, we like to provide a GOOD Customer Experience for our candidates. But what does this look like for them?

To make sure we were providing a GOOD customer experience we asked candidate, Claire Chang-Walker, who we recently placed into Bullitt Group Ltd, to give us some insight from a candidate’s perspective…

Where do you look for jobs?

I usually have recruiters contact me via LinkedIn, but when searching for jobs I still tend to update my CV within job search sites, such as reed.co.uk. This is purely personal preference and I feel my line of work usually fits well within these job sites better.

What do you look for in a recruitment website?

The websites need to be easy to use, with relevant and up to date positions listed. I do not like “junk mailing” or advertisements on a recruitment site. Technical knowledge is very important to me when I am dealing with a recruiter.

How important is it that a recruiter fully understands your CV?

Very. If the recruiter does not understand my CV, I would be very doubtful they can find me the right job and the company that I am looking for.

What is a GOOD response rate from a recruiter?

I would say a good response rate when I apply for job would be 48 to 72hrs. Even if my application is unsuccessful – it is always good to know the reason why. During interview stage, I would say a good response rate would be follow up contact within 24hrs from the interview taking place. Then another 48hrs to get an update on progress.

How much information on the job role and company do you expect from a recruiter?

I would expect the recruiter to provide a decent amount of information – enough to know if this is the role or company that I potentially want to proceed further with. I would also expect the recruiter to point me to the right direction to find out more information in preparation of the interview stage.

How important is it that Recruiter keeps you informed during the interview process?

Very. I like the recruiter to be pro-active. In comparison to other recruitment organisations, I noticed BPS World were constantly keeping me informed, even if it was just to let me know that they were still waiting to hear from the hiring company and the reason behind that delay. This really helped to manage my expectation and get on with my day to day life.

What are you pain points when dealing with a recruitment company and how could these be resolved?

Too much “bluff” – it’s nice to know how good the potential role and hiring company are, but it would also be very useful to balance it out with what’s happening in the company and not just to hear all the positive aspects! This is important, expectations need to match the reality and the recruitment company would want the candidate to stay in a job if they get offered a position. I appreciate the honesty BPS World provide me in their correspondence.

What would improve your customer experience with a recruitment company?

Communication and expectation would be the key ingredients for me. If from the first point of contact I feel I am not getting the right information I need, or I feel the company are simply trying to fit my skills into a job they need to fulfil, rather than it’s a good fit, I tend to ignore any future contact from them. Good recruitment needs clear and honest communication between the recruiter and the candidate and this asset is key for a good customer experience.
