Our World / May: a creative and curious month

June 5, 2017
Our theme for May was “Curious and Creative” and this month we spent time on developing our creative thinking and problem solving skills!
The team participated in creative learning challenges and activities which included the “How far can you go?” competition. The team had to design and build a paper aeroplane to outperform the others - the winning distance was a respectable 4.8 metres.
Curiosity enhances learning so we also took part in Learning at Work Week. Learning at Work Week is a campaign to highlight the importance and benefits of learning and developing at work. Our Team Leaders held training workshops where they shared their expert knowledge on a variety of recruitment related topics such as “How to take a job requirement” “Effective Video Interviewing” and "How to conduct a Boolean search". Over eight hours of training was delivered and over 50 team members attended the workshops. Our “Curious” theme nicely aligned with our LinkedIn Learning and we continued to hold our weekly LinkedIn Learning sessions in the office.
We took “Growing Our Skills” into a literal sense and planted our sunflower seeds, courtesy of Learning At Work Week and the race is now on to see who can grow the tallest sunflower!
A race of a ‘muddier’ kind was held on Saturday 6th May at Henley-on-Thames. The BPS World Tough Mudder Team completed the race which and raised a staggering £1454.00 for the Help4Heroes charity so a very BIG ‘Well done’ to the team. Ready to sign up for the next race anyone??
The Rising Stars case studies was launched with our apprentices discussing why they chose an apprenticeship, their time with BPS World and what advice they would give to others looking to follow the same route. If you would like to read more on this please click here.
Finally to close a busy month we released our ‘Customer Age’ survey. The survey explores how the online reviewing culture impacts decision making in the recruitment industry. BPS World and One Poll researched a group of employers and employees to see how their behaviour is influenced by reviews from sites like Facebook and Glassdoor.com. The results were very interesting and showed that 79% of employees would check out an employer online before accepting a job. To read all the results of the survey please click here.
Lasting thought: everyone heard that expression curiosity killed the cat? Well it didn’t, it created the mousetrap……
Take a second and think about the meaning of that statement – what does it mean to you?
